Blooming Sourdough Bread

imageImagine waking up in the morning to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and sourdough bread that has blossomed overnight! That would be quite a breakfast, wouldn’t it?

Unfortunately, the bread won’t just blossom on its own. It requires a little bit of preparation, especially if what you have in mind is sourdough bread oozing with mozzarella cheese and green onions.

No worries, it doesn’t require a whole lot of time, just some slicing skills and a few minutes in the oven.

1 medium, whole sourdough bread

10-12 thin slices of mozzarella cheese

2 tbsps unsalted butter

1/2 cup chopped green onions

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Using a sharp knife, slice the bread lengthwise and crosswise to make half-inch squares, just deep enough to keep the bread intact. Place the whole bread into a baking pan lined with aluminum foil. Insert the cheese slices into the grooves.  Melt the butter and add in the chopped green onions. Using a a teaspoon, fill the grooves with the butter and onion mixture. Fold over the aluminum foil so that it loosely covers the bread.  Place into oven and bake for about 20 minutes. Uncover the bread and continue baking for another 10 minutes.  Remove from heat and serve.
