Beef With Broccoli Slaw

photo(305)Beef with broccoli is a popular menu item in many Chinese restaurants.  It’s a safe order for those who like to eat meat and have their vegetables too.

This recipe is a simple stir-fry dish made with beef rounds, but I substituted broccoli florets with broccoli and carrot slaw. Broccoli slaw consists of shredded broccoli stalks. You can cook the vegetables with the beef or you can sprinkle them raw over the meat once it’s cooked.  Or both.  I served it with a small topping of pickled ginger.


1 lb round, thinly sliced into strips (you can also use beef sirloin)

1 cup broccoli slaw

1/2 cup carrots, julienned

2 tbsps soy sauce

1 small onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed

2 tbsps Olive oil

2 tbsps sesame seeds

1 tsp pickled ginger


Heat Olive oil in a large wok in medium-high heat. Add beef strips and stir-fry until browned and tender. Move beef to the side of the wok and add garlic, onion, broccoli and carrot slaw.  Stir-fry vegetables for 2 minutes.  Mix the beef and vegetables and continue to stir and cook for an additional 2 minutes.  Remove from heat, place beef and slaw into a serving bowl. sprinkle with sesame seeds and top with pickled ginger.
