You wouldn’t know it hit you until your cheeks blush and your ears become warm to the touch! Such is the magic of the Bahama Mama, the signature cocktail drink of The Bahamas. No visit to the Caribbean islands is complete without having a tall glass (or two, or three) of this tropical adult drink. While I am not a fan of cocktail drinks, being in Nassau on vacation gave me the urge to do as the Bahamians do.
I am writing this on a Sunday morning where for many, it is typical to drink a glass or two of the mimosa or to complement their Sunday brunch with champagne. Well, for a delightful change, why not have the Bahama Mama? You just might find yourself snapping your fingers to the beat of the rhythmic tune in the background. Ooooh la la la oooh la la!
1/2 fl oz (1 tbsp) rum
1/2 fl oz coconut-flavored rum
1/2 fl oz grenadine syrup
1 fl oz pineapple juice
1 fl oz orange juice
3-4 ice cubes
Blended: Combine all the ingredients in an electric blender. Blend until the consistency is slushy then pour into a tall glass
Shaken: Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and pour into a tall glass with ice cubes
If desired, serve with a slice of fresh pineapple or orange.
