All-Natural Fruit Smoothie
Not all that glitters is gold. Not all fruit smoothies are healthy, especially the ones you order from smoothie kiosks at the mall or at the movie theater concession stands. Think about all the sugar, sweetened fruit juice, sugary ice cream or frozen yogurt, honey, dairy and whatever “trademark” ingredients that go into that electric blender!
Your best bet for a healthier smoothie is one that you prepare yourself at home. You know what goes into that blender and you can improvise, depending on what particular taste or amount of calories you are aiming for.
Everyday, on my drive to work, I enjoy a tall cup of fruit smoothie prepared my way. Here’s a really simple recipe prepared from fresh or previously frozen fruits.
1 whole fresh banana, cut into small pieces (or 1 cup of previously frozen, cut bananas)
1 cup sliced fresh or previously frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of fresh or previously frozen blueberries
2 cups of soy milk, vanilla flavor
3-4 ice cubes
Put the banana, strawberries and blueberries into the blender
Add the soy milk
Add the ice cubes
Pour the smoothie into a tall glass or to go cup with lid.
